From 1964 to 1966, my grandfather, Sydney Ellerton, had the opportunity to travel to Pakistan during his years as a sugar beet scientist undertaking feasibility studies for growing sugar beet there. His journeys also took him to Afghanistan, and later, in 1982, to Iraq.
